Workthere: Flexible office occupancy across Europe shows signs of recovery

Flexible office occupancy levels have reached almost 60% in some locations across Europe according to Workthere’s latest findings. Data from the flexible offices specialist shows that in the Netherlands, building occupancy across flexible offices has reached 57%, the highest percentage across Europe*. This is in comparison to pre-Covid-19 levels where occupancy for the country stood at 75%.

Germany, in second place,is seeing 55% of flexible office workers back in their usual workspace.. In Ireland, 43% of people are back in the office, in Spain 35% and the UK 23%.

For some locations across Europe, a return to pre-Covid occupancy levels is almost in reach. The Netherlands has shown incredibly positive signs of recovery across the board in our sentiment survey and it’s great to see people feel comfortable going back into the office. With much of Europe still enjoying their summer holidays, we anticipate occupancy levels to increase again in September when many schools are scheduled to go back

Again, the Netherlands leads the way for expected contract occupancy (the number of desks that accommodate paying members as a portion of total desks) at the end of August (74%), followed by the UK (71%), Ireland (69%), Germany (67%) and Spain (57%).

As we move into late summer, we are feeling positive that we will see building occupancy continue to rise, with the obvious caveat of a potential second wave across Europe. With many corporates looking for flexible solutions in order to spread their employees across office space to maintain social distancing, we expect to see a rise in demand for city fringe locations.
